Electric blue

If you told me 1987 that I would own a pair of Mega Man shoes 22 years later, I'd say you were crazy.

I came across the Puma shoes via Joystiq (who found it via the GoNintendo blog), and the 13-year-old inside me went bonkers. So I went ahead and ordered.

This is by far the most ridiculous pair of shoes I own. But they're so worth it.

Life on Jupiter

I've safely landed in Jupiter, Fla., after back-to-back 12-hour drives.

Jazz unleashed a fury of meows at first, but once he got over it, he chilled in the backseat on the floor. Every once in a while he would climb onto my lap for a few minutes, just to let me know he was still alive.

On the road, I caught up with various podcasts, including Ron Moore's commentary on the Battlestar finale, fan BSG podcasts, ListenUP, Buzz Out Loud and Diggnation. I also got my news fix via Stitcher Radio.

The new place is smaller than I expected. It's an older building (mid-'80s I'm guessing), so it doesn't follow my history of renting posh, urban-style living spaces. Still, this apartment has plenty of things that my previous didn't have, mainly:

  • Closets
  • Bathroom mirror
  • Toilet paper holder
  • Towel rod
  • Patios!
  • Bathroom cabinet
  • Cable TV
  • Bedroom door

Abacoa Town Center is a nice area; it's like Bayshore Town Center, but smaller. And with palm trees. I'm about a 20-second walk from an Irish Pub, and there's a Japanese restaurant and a sweet cafe down the street. The pedestrian population is mostly made up of Cardinals/Marlins fans in town for spring training games.

I arrived here ahead of the movers, so I won't be completely settled in until later in the week. Oh, and thanks to the neighbor who is transmitting an unprotected Wi-Fi signal. I promise not to hog your bandwidth.

Blog hiatus

Due to all the moving madness, the blog is taking an early vacation and will resume in full force once I'm settled in.

Speaking of settled in, here's a video of the place where I'm likely to live. And I say "likely" because even though the lease has been signed, there are still a few more hoops to jump through before it's officially mine.

Yes, it's small, but I can't argue with having two patios and living on the ground floor. (I'm tired of elevators.) The location is great -- coffee, beer and food product all within walking distance. Plus, it's near Roger Dean Stadium, where the Cardinals and the Marlins do spring training. (It's also home of the Jupiter Hammerheads.)

So as much as I'd love to write about the iPhone 3.0 software, Kindle 2 and the first part of the "Battlestar Galactica" finale, the moving process takes precedence.

See you guys on the flip side. I'll still be Twittering, though.

The death of the newspaper!

The Buzz Report on CNet is one of my favorite video podcasts; it's like a tech version of "The Daily Show." This week's episode covers the struggling newspaper industry (along with an Apple netbook rumor). Listen. Watch. Enjoy. Repeat.

I'm glad I'm getting out of the newspaper business.
